Karelian Diamond Resources plc (AIM: KDR), the AIM-quoted diamond exploration company focused on Finland, has published its final results for the year ended 31 May 2026, reporting a net loss of €529,413 against total assets of €12,463,641. The year was marked by two significant operational milestones: the formal registration of mining rights at the Lahtojoki diamond deposit in Finland after more than eight years of engagement with regulators, and the completion of the first drilling programme at the Anomaly 5 exploration target in the Kuhmo region. The company also holds a licence package covering over 1,000 km² in Northern Ireland targeting nickel, copper and platinum group elements, adding further diversification to its asset base.
Key Points
- Karelian Diamond Resources plc (AIM: KDR) — Ireland-domiciled diamond and base metals exploration company
- Finnish Safety and Chemical Agency (Tukes) registered the Lahtojoki mining concession in June 2025 after more than eight years of regulatory engagement
- Net loss of €529,413 for the year ended 31 May 2026; net assets of €9,820,103; going concern material uncertainty flagged by auditors
- Investors may be watching progress on financing discussions for Lahtojoki development and analytical results from the Anomaly 5 drill core
Lahtojoki Mining Concession Secured After Eight-Year Regulatory Process
The Lahtojoki diamond deposit, comprising a 71-hectare mining concession that includes a 1.6-hectare kimberlite pipe, reached a critical permitting milestone when Tukes formally issued the mining concession certificate in June 2025. The deposit contains high-quality colourless gem diamonds as well as coloured diamonds, including pink diamonds, which the company notes can command prices at a significant multiple of comparable colourless stones. A 2017 Preliminary Economic Assessment — which excluded coloured diamond revenues — indicated in excess of 2 million carats recoverable with an in-situ value of US$211 million, an IRR of 55 per cent, and an NPV of US$39.1 million at an 8 per cent discount rate. Financing discussions to advance the project to development remained ongoing at the year end.
First Drilling at Anomaly 5 in Kuhmo Region Returns Encouraging Olivine Lamproite Intersections
Karelian completed a three-hole drilling programme totalling approximately 334 metres at Anomaly 5 in the Kuhmo region, targeting a geophysical anomaly lying up-ice of a green diamond discovered by the company in glacial till. Two of the three holes intersected rock material provisionally interpreted as olivine lamproite — a rock type associated with diamond-bearing provinces globally, including the Argyle and Ellendale mines — beneath an exceptionally thick overburden of approximately 35 metres. Hole KD-26-02 intersected an eight-metre interval at approximately 73.40 to 81.40 metres depth, while hole KD-26-03 recorded a 3.9-metre interval at approximately 42.90 to 46.80 metres. Drill core samples are being prepared for detailed petrographic and geochemical analysis, with a ground electromagnetic survey planned as a next step.
Northern Ireland Nickel, Copper and Platinum Licence Package Advances with Trinity College Dublin Partnership
Karelian's Northern Ireland operations cover a licence package of more than 1,000 km², where the company has identified first-mover advantage in targeting nickel, copper and platinum group elements. During the year, the company identified the historic Cappagh Copper Mine site within its KDR4 licence area as a significant new copper target. In late 2025, Karelian entered an enterprise partnership with Trinity College Dublin, jointly funded by Research Ireland, to advance technical understanding of platinum group element potential across the licence areas. Planned exploration programmes will commence with detailed geological mapping and geochemical sampling, building on a database constructed by geological consultant Dr. Larry Hulbert.
Going Concern Uncertainty Flagged as Net Current Liabilities Reach €2.54 Million
Karelian's auditors flagged a material uncertainty relating to going concern, noting that the company held net current liabilities of €2,540,236 as at 31 May 2026 and faces an ongoing requirement to raise funds to execute its operational plans. During the year the company raised €217,239 via a placing and subscription of 24,666,666 new ordinary shares at 0.75 pence per share, and a further €336,234 through unsecured convertible loan notes carrying interest at 8 per cent per annum, convertible at 1.5 pence per share. The company's cash position stood at €47,591 at the year end. Directors and former directors have confirmed they will not seek repayment of deferred salaries and fees within 12 months of the financial statements' approval date.
