International Airlines Group (LSE:IAG) has announced a major fleet investment with orders for 53 new long-haul aircraft from Boeing and Airbus, as part of its broader strategy to modernise operations, enhance customer experience, and position its airlines for long-term growth.
The new order includes 32 Boeing 787-10 aircraft for British Airways and 21 Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, which can be allocated across IAG’s other long-haul carriers—Aer Lingus, Iberia, and LEVEL. The delivery of these aircraft is scheduled between 2028 and 2033, subject to shareholder approval at the group’s Annual General Meeting in June.
In addition to the firm orders, IAG has secured purchase options for up to 10 more Boeing 787s and 13 more Airbus A330-900neos.
Of the 53 aircraft ordered, 35 will replace aging jets or leased aircraft, aligning with IAG’s strategy to transition to more modern and fuel-efficient fleets. The remaining 18 aircraft will be deployed for growth.
The A330-900neos will be powered by Rolls-Royce engines, while the Boeing 787-10s will feature General Electric engines. Both engine contracts include comprehensive warranty and long-term maintenance agreements.
This fresh order follows IAG’s previously announced deals in March 2025 for six Airbus A350-900s for Iberia, and a combination of six Airbus A350-1000s and six Boeing 777-9s for British Airways.
Luis Gallego, Chief Executive Officer of IAG, said:
“This order marks another milestone in our strategy and transformation programme and underlines our commitment to strengthening our airline brands and enhancing our customer proposition. Looking ahead to the next decade, these new aircraft will enable us to strengthen our core markets and further improve our customer experience, while continuing to drive long-term value for our shareholders.”
