index Update: The FTSE 100 index, a key benchmark index for the London Stock Exchange, was trading declined around 0.23% on 17 April 2026.

Macro Update: The UK economy is showing fragile resilience, with recent GDP growth offset by rising Inflation and a softening labor market. Globally, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and high energy prices are dampening growth forecasts. Markets remain cautious as central banks delay Interest Rate cuts amidst persistent global economic uncertainty.

Top Market Movers: Among top gainers on FTSE 100 indexIntertek Group PLC (LSE: ITRK) witnessed a rise of 4.61% followed by The Sage Group PLC (LSE: SGE) witnessed a rise of 3.61%.

Commodity Update: On Friday, the Japanese yen weakened after the Bank of Japan refrained from signaling a rate hike next week, while traders remained cautious and stayed on the sidelines ahead of potential U.S.–Iran peace talks. Gold fell 0.07% to USD 4,805.05 per ounce, silver rose 0.27% to USD 78.925, and copper slipped 0.16% to USD 13,243.15. Meanwhile, Brent Crude declined 1.01% to USD 98.38 per barrel, amid optimism over a Lebanon–Israel ceasefire and possible U.S.–Iran discussions.

Our Stance: The UK maintains a cautious stance, balancing resilience against energy-driven Inflation. With the IMF slashing growth forecasts, the Bank of England has halted rate cuts, prioritizing stability. Globally, the UK leverages its "safe-haven" status while navigating Supply shocks and shifting geopolitical trade alliances.

FTSE 100: The FTSE 100 index fell 11.47 points to close at 10,578.49, forming a small bearish candlestick. Despite this positive move, the broader technical outlook remains weak, as the index continues to trade below its 50-period Simple Moving Average (SMA), which is acting as a key dynamic resistance and capping near-term upside potential. Momentum indicators also remain subdued, suggesting that buying strength is not yet strong enough to confirm a sustained Reversal. On the downside, immediate support is seen near 10,300, a level that needs to hold to maintain short-term stability. A decisive move above resistance could improve sentiment.
