Highlights
- Approximately 90% of Bluefield Solar’s 1.34GW development pipeline has received Gate 2 grid offers.
- Gate 2, Phase 1 offers cover around 660MW with connection dates between 2026 and 2030.
- Gate 2, Phase 2 offers have been received for around 560MW with later connection timelines.
Bluefield Solar Income Fund Ltd (LSE:BSIF), the London-listed UK income fund focused on the acquisition and management of solar energy assets, has confirmed that it has received Gate 2 grid connection offers for the majority of its development pipeline following the first stage of the National Energy System Operator’s grid reform process.
NESO Grid Reform Milestone
The National Energy System Operator’s grid reform represents a significant change to how energy projects connect to Britain’s electricity network. The revised framework replaces the previous first-come, first-served approach with a system based on project readiness and strategic alignment with the UK’s Clean Power 2030 objectives.
The process is designed to reduce congestion in the grid connection queue by removing stalled or non-viable projects, while accelerating projects that are positioned to deliver within defined timeframes. This reform has now progressed to its first stage, with Gate 2 offers issued to qualifying projects.
Gate 2 Phase 1 Offers Secured
Bluefield Solar confirmed it has received Gate 2; Phase 1 offers for approximately 660MW of its development pipeline. These offers provide confirmed grid connection dates between 2026 and 2030 and place projects in a protected position within the connection queue.
The Phase 1 capacity includes around 540MW of solar photovoltaic projects and approximately 120MW of battery energy storage systems (BESS), reflecting a diversified mix of generation and storage assets across the pipeline.
Phase 2 Offers Extend Pipeline Visibility
In addition, the company has received Gate 2, Phase 2 offers covering approximately 560MW of capacity. This tranche is split between roughly 185MW of solar PV and around 370MW of BESS projects.
Gate 2, Phase 2 offers allocate grid connection dates between 2031 and 2035, providing longer-term visibility for a substantial portion of the development portfolio.
Pipeline Status and Remaining Projects
Following receipt of the Gate 2 offers, more than 90% of Bluefield Solar’s total 1.34GW pipeline has now secured a confirmed position in the grid queue. The remaining 9%, comprising 125MW of BESS projects, received Gate 1 offers.
Projects with Gate 1 status will need to submit new applications to re-enter the grid queue, with future connection dates subject to NESO’s strategic alignment criteria. The company confirmed that no value has been attributed to these Gate 1 projects within its net asset value to date.
Strategic Review Update
The strategic review and formal sale process announced on 5 November 2025 continues in line with the Board’s expectations. A further update is expected alongside the company’s interim results in early March 2026, unless material developments arise beforehand.
Bluefield Solar shares were trading at approximately GBP 0.69 on 23 January.
