Aberdeen Equity Income Trust stood at a 1.84% discount to estimated NAV on AJ Bell's latest data, against a 12-month average of 0.56%. The trust's latest verified updates are routine NAV notices and a September dividend, rather than a new corporate event.

What happened

No results or strategic statement appeared in the announcements retrieved for the trust (LSE:AEI). The listing retrieved ran to 23 October and consisted mainly of daily NAV notices, along with gearing disclosures on 12 and 19 October, a portfolio disclosure on 13 October and a quarterly disclosure on 2 October.

Aberdeen Equity Income Trust is a constituent of the FTSE All-Share index. It sits in the Investment trust sector and is grouped by ticker.app with UK equity income peers.

Why it matters for investors

NAV has moved up through the autumn. The month-end notice gave 454.17p including income and 448.47p excluding it at 30 September. By 22 October, those figures were 456.01p and 449.34p.

AJ Bell's page then showed a latest NAV of 461.51p at 29 October and an estimated NAV of 456.40p. The two AJ Bell figures differ by about 5p, so the estimate should not be read as the last published number.

The gap between the two sets of trust figures matters for an income vehicle. Cum-income NAV counts Revenue accumulated but not yet distributed, and the difference widens until a Dividend goes ex. It stood at 6.67p on 22 October, compared with 5.70p at the end of September.

Income is central to the case for holding this trust. AJ Bell listed the two latest dividends at 5.70p each. The first went ex-dividend on 28 May and was paid on 26 June, while the second went ex-dividend on 27 August and was paid on 25 September. The page gave a Dividend Yield of 5.14%.

The discount remains narrow by the standards of a closed-ended fund, but it is wider than the average of the past year. That is a modest shift rather than a marked change, and no statement from the company on the discount was retrieved. The page did not explain the movement.

How the shares have performed

AJ Bell's delayed page, retrieved on 3 November, showed a sell price of 448p and a buy price of 452p, up 4p or 0.89% from a previous close of 448p. The page did not time-stamp the quote, and the most recent trade listed was on 2 November.

The 52-week range ran from 359.25p to 473p, leaving the shares much closer to the high than the low. Market Capitalisation was £361.68m.

Ticker.app, on a page updated on 30 October, showed the shares down 1.1% over one month and 2.8% over three months. It dated the 52-week low to 23 March 2026. The same page showed 80,018,671 shares in issue at 1 September.

What to watch next

A further dividend announcement is the most obvious next item, given the quarterly pattern in the two most recent payments. On that pattern, investors would look for a declaration in the coming weeks, although no date was found in the material retrieved.

The trust's next results should provide the detail that daily notices do not, including dividend cover, revenue reserves, gearing and performance against the benchmark. We did not retrieve those figures for this article, and we make no statement about them. The gearing and portfolio disclosures listed in October were also not read for this report.

Daily NAV notices will show whether the discount moves back towards its 12-month average. Readers should check a live quote, as the AJ Bell prices are delayed.
