CMC Markets Plc (LSE:CMCX) is approaching its half-year reporting season with a demanding income target of £460m to £480m for the year to March 2027. No fresh trading news was found today; the last major update was its preliminary results of early June.
What happened
The online trading and investing group reported a 15% rise in net Operating Income to £392.6m for the year to 31 March 2026. Pre-tax profit increased 20% to £101.3m and EBITDA rose 14% to £117.8m.
A final Dividend of 8.3p was proposed, taking the total for the year to 13.8p, up 21%. The summary of the announcement credited institutional and business-to-business partnerships for much of the growth, and reported a record performance from Australian stockbroking.
For the current year, CMC (LSE:CMCX) guided to net operating income growth of at least 17%, to between £460m and £480m. Those figures come from a published summary of the regulatory announcement, which itself cautions readers to check the full text.
Recent company news
Regulatory notices since the summer have been low-key. CMC (LSE:CMCX) filed a series of director and senior manager dealing notices between August and 6 October, along with holding notifications on 28 August and 15 September.
The latest dealing notices we reviewed were small and routine. On 5 October, head of global strategic partnerships David Fineberg acquired 46 shares and chief operating officer Jonathan Bendall acquired 44 shares, both at 670p, under the UK share incentive plan.
Purchases of that size under an employee plan carry little signal about management's view of the company, and should not be read as conviction buying.
Why it matters for investors
CMC Markets is a constituent of the FTSE All-Share index and sits in the financial services sector. Its Earnings are closely linked to client trading activity, which means results can swing with market Volatility as well as with strategy.
The guidance implies a step up from the 15% growth delivered last year, and the mid-point of the range would represent growth of about 20% by our calculation. The first half will show how much of that is already in hand and how much depends on the remaining months.
The comparison is not trivial either. In the first half of the previous year, FX News Group reported Revenue up 14% to £186m, and the company raised its outlook at that point, so momentum was already building in the base period.
How the shares have performed
A market data page last updated on 2 November 2026 showed a close of 708p, up 13p or 1.87% on the day. The Market Value was about £1.98bn.
On that snapshot the shares had gained 3.9% over one month and lost 0.9% over three months. The 708p level sits above the 670p paid in the 5 October plan purchases. On last year's 13.8p total dividend, the historic Yield at that price is about 1.9%, by our calculation.
What to watch next
Interim results are the next obvious catalyst. Last year's were released on 20 November 2025, though the 2026 date was not confirmed in the material retrieved today.
Investors are likely to focus on whether CMC reaffirms or narrows the £460m to £480m range, and on how the mix between trading, institutional partnerships and Australian stockbroking is developing. The size of any interim dividend, after last year's 21% increase in the total payout, will also be of interest.
