Futura Medical plc (LSE:FUM) has announced that it has been granted a notice of allowance for its patent covering MED3000, marketed as Eroxon®, in China. The allowance provides patent protection in the Chinese market through to 2040 and relates to Eroxon, a topical gel developed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED).

The approval represents an extension of the company’s intellectual property coverage into one of the world’s most populous healthcare markets. According to the company, erectile dysfunction prevalence among adult males in China is estimated at around 50%, based on an adult male population of approximately 700 million.

Expansion of Global Intellectual Property Coverage
The China patent allowance adds to Futura Medical’s existing international patent portfolio. The company already holds protection for MED3000 across several regions, including Europe, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the United States. Patent applications in additional territories remain under review.

Futura Medical stated that the China approval further consolidates its global intellectual property position. The company has also indicated plans to pursue a divisional patent application in China, with filing expected in early 2026, aimed at extending the scope of protection for MED3000 in the region.

Focus on Commercial Strategy and Partnerships
The patent allowance supports Futura Medical’s commercial strategy for Eroxon within the Chinese market. The company has previously highlighted its intention to engage with potential commercial partners as part of its market entry approach.

China is considered a significant market for erectile dysfunction treatments due to its population size and demographic profile. Intellectual property protection is a key prerequisite for commercial discussions in regulated pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare markets.

Background on MED3000 (Eroxon)
MED3000, branded as Eroxon®, is a clinically tested, topical product designed for over-the-counter use in certain jurisdictions. It is positioned within the consumer healthcare space and does not contain an active pharmaceutical ingredient typically associated with prescription-based ED treatments.

Outlook and Next Steps
Futura Medical noted that further updates will be provided as progress is made with regulatory, patent, and partnership-related developments in China and other markets. Pending applications in additional territories remain part of the company’s ongoing intellectual property initiatives.
