- ANGLE successfully completes assay development projects with AstraZeneca and Eisai
- The company adds Androgen Receptor and DNA damage response assays to its portfolio
- CTC analysis with Parsortix shows potential in assessing HER2 status over time in cancer patients
ANGLE plc (AIM:AGL OTCQX:ANPCY), a leading liquid biopsy company known for its innovative circulating tumor cell (CTC) solutions, has announced the successful completion of its development work for two significant assays with global pharmaceutical companies AstraZeneca and Eisai. ANGLE has now completed the development of the Androgen Receptor (AR) assay and the DNA damage response (DDR) assay for detecting micronuclei in CTCs, as well as its contract with Eisai to dynamically measure HER2 CTC status.
Update on AstraZeneca Assay Development Projects
Both the AR and DDR assays have been approved for use by AstraZeneca, with ANGLE currently testing blood samples from patients. This success positions ANGLE to carry out large-scale clinical trials for AstraZeneca. The AR and DDR assays will now be available to pharmaceutical customers through ANGLE’s clinical laboratory services, representing a valuable addition to the company's growing menu of validated tests.
The AR therapeutic market is expected to reach US$9.2 billion by 2033, driven by rising prostate cancer rates and the adoption of targeted therapies. Meanwhile, the DDR therapeutic market is forecasted to grow from US$8.2 billion in 2024 to US$30.3 billion by 2034.
Results of Eisai Phase 2 Pilot Study
ANGLE’s Parsortix-based HER2 assay was used to analyze breast cancer patients' HER2 status in a Phase 2 study of the HER2-ADC BB-1701. The results showed consistent CTC analysis across multiple samples and significant differences in HER2 CTC status between different timepoints, both before and after treatment. This finding underscores the value of liquid biopsy in assessing treatment responses and identifying patients likely to benefit from HER2-targeted therapies.
The HER2 therapeutic market is growing significantly, with projections to reach US$13.2 billion by 2030. ANGLE’s HER2 assay has the potential to support ongoing and future drug trials, as HER2 is a key target for antibody-drug conjugates. Although Eisai decided not to progress with BB-1701, ANGLE maintains a positive working relationship with the company and is exploring new opportunities for CTC analysis in other projects.
