- MedPal triples facility size at Ecotech Business Park to support nationwide medicine delivery.
- AI-enabled triage integrates with robotic dispensing to enhance prescription processing efficiency.
- Same-day and next-day delivery offered for eligible prescriptions through fully automated centre.
MedPal AI Plc (AIM:MPAL) has officially opened a new 24/7 AI-powered distribution centre at Ecotech Business Park, Swaffham. The development follows the acquisition of key assets from Universal Pharmacy Limited, including a Distance Selling Pharmacy (DSP) licence and a warehouse unit. With the GPhC ceasing new DSP licences in June 2025, this facility positions MedPal Limited to offer nationwide prescription distribution.
The company has expanded the original site by leasing two adjacent units, tripling the facility’s footprint. Advanced robotic dispensing systems, including an Omnicell VBM and BD Rowa VMAX, have been installed to support higher throughput, improved accuracy, and operational efficiency.
AI-Integrated Prescription Services
The Centre integrates MedPal’s AI triage system, allowing users to complete AI-supported consultations at any time. Prescriptions are reviewed and signed off by independent prescribers or GPs, then fulfilled by the automated facility. Medications are delivered the same or next day, with consultations provided at no cost, and patients only paying for the medication.
Jason Drummond, CEO of MedPal AI, commented: "This distribution centre represents a milestone in our mission to democratise healthcare. By combining our Medpal AI triage with robotic innovation, we are creating a 24/7 ecosystem that makes primary care accessible and affordable, while always prioritising patient safety through human expertise and oversight."
Operational Capabilities and Service Focus
The Centre operates continuously, handling both private and NHS prescriptions. Initial services focus on high-demand areas, such as weight-loss medications and chronic disease management, with same-day delivery in metropolitan areas and next-day delivery nationwide. Automation and AI integration are intended to reduce dispensing errors, optimise inventory, and support scalable telehealth services.
By combining digital front-end access via the MedPal app with robotic dispensing, the facility aims to streamline prescribing, lower unit costs, and enhance patient safety through barcoded workflows and machine vision checks. The model also facilitates accessibility for working-age patients who may face challenges in visiting traditional GP surgeries during standard business hours.
Future Outlook
The launch of this AI-powered distribution centre represents a strategic development in MedPal AI’s operations, integrating telemedicine and robotic dispensing to improve service speed, cost efficiency, and accessibility for patients across the UK.
Share performance
The company is currently trading at GBX 8.35 per share, slightly down by 1.76% from its previous close of 8.50.
