That single transaction was for CA$1.1b worth of shares at a price of CA$29.12 each. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is CA$24.33. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price. Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 27.96m shares worth CA$800m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders. So What Does This Data Suggest About Saputo Insiders? The recent insider purchases are heartening. But we can't say the same for the transactions over the last 12 months. The high levels of insider ownership, and the recent buying by some insiders suggests they are well aligned and optimistic.
