Filtronic plc (LSE:FTC), a UK-based designer and manufacturer of advanced radio frequency (RF) communications technology, has announced it has been awarded a contract valued at GBP 13.4 million. The agreement covers the manufacture and testing of high-performance electronic modules for an undisclosed electronic sensor system.
According to the company, the contract involves the production of complex components that will be delivered from mid-calendar year 2026. Manufacturing and testing will be carried out at Filtronic’s recently commissioned secure hybrid microelectronics facility in Sedgefield, County Durham. The site is designed to support automated production processes and cater to the stringent quality and security requirements of aerospace and defence applications.
This latest contract is part of Filtronic’s strategic emphasis on supplying critical technologies to the space, aerospace, defence, and telecommunications infrastructure sectors. The company’s existing product and service portfolio includes high-frequency components and sub-systems designed to support secure data transmission and mission-critical communications.
Filtronic has positioned itself as a supplier of advanced RF solutions, with an engineering and manufacturing footprint spanning two global manufacturing sites and three engineering centres. Its products operate across the full radio frequency spectrum and are used in both terrestrial and satellite-based communications systems. The company holds a substantial patent portfolio, indicating ongoing investments in intellectual property and proprietary technology.
The sensor module contract is expected to be a significant contributor to Filtronic’s aerospace and defence revenue streams. These sectors are among the company’s current high-growth focus areas, particularly with the increasing global demand for low-latency, high-bandwidth communications in both civil and defence markets.
Filtronic’s CEO, Nat Edington, noted that the award marks continued confidence from the market in the company’s ability to manage technically complex programmes. He reiterated that the aerospace and defence segment remains a central component of the group’s longer-term growth strategy. The company’s ability to develop and scale custom solutions for specialised applications is supported by investments in automated production and in-house validation capabilities. These facilities enable Filtronic to manage the full product lifecycle from concept through to high-volume production within a tightly controlled quality framework.
Filtronic has been operating for more than 45 years and has a history of supporting high-reliability markets, including telecoms infrastructure and secure government communications. The group’s current roadmap includes product development aligned to market trends in low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications, radar, and high-performance defence systems.
The contract win follows a period of broader strategic investment by Filtronic, with a particular emphasis on reinforcing its production capacity and technical talent across its core business lines. It is expected that the modules produced under this new contract will be integrated into wider defence or aerospace systems, though the end-client and application remain undisclosed due to commercial sensitivities. As of now, the company has not released specific financial guidance in relation to this contract, but the size and duration of the award indicate a multi-year revenue contribution. FTC trading at 2.88% higher at GBX 169.24 per share as on 14 july 2025.
