Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA) jumped 7.0% to a four-year peak near $195.71 as high-level investment talks with the UAE added to a stunning 2026 rally. The stock is up 531.3% this year and has beaten the market by 246 percentage points over six months, powered by a breakthrough cancer vaccine trial, but an RSI of 75.1 and analyst targets far below the price raise the stakes.

Moderna has outperformed the broader market by 246.2 percentage points over the past six months, putting it among the top performers on the Nasdaq this year. Relative strength compares a stock's return with the overall market, and a reading this large puts Moderna among the top performers on the Nasdaq this year.

The rally has a real scientific catalyst. Moderna and Merck's intismeran autogene, an individualized mRNA cancer vaccine, succeeded in a Phase 3 melanoma trial, and the stock jumped from about $62 to $174 in a single day in August. This week, management recast Moderna as an "mRNA platform company" with cancer vaccines at the center, and the UAE talks raised hopes of a major strategic investment. Moderna also raised about $2.6 billion through a convertible offering about four weeks ago.

Moderna (MRNA) Leaves Biotech Peers Behind

Regeneron rose 0.6%, Natera 1.0% and Vertex was little changed, so Moderna's gain was company-specific. The stock closed near the top of its $180.39 to $195.71 range, a sign buyers stayed in control, although pre-market trading later showed MRNA down 0.7% at $193.55. The 14-day RSI is 75.1. RSI measures the speed of recent gains on a 0 to 100 scale, and readings above 70 are overbought. That warns that a pause or pullback is likely, even if the long-term trend stays up.

MACD is 19.55, above its 17.26 signal line. MACD tracks momentum, and staying above the signal line confirms the uptrend still has energy.

ADX is 58.8. ADX measures trend strength, and a reading near 60 shows an exceptionally strong trend.

First support is $193.78, just below the current price, with the next listed support far lower at $69.78. First resistance is $247.22.

Valuation Is the Risk

Moderna trades at 32.5 times sales and 11.5 times book, with $1.72 billion of cash and equivalents and 4,700 employees. Analysts rate the stock Hold, with an average target near $119.56, about 38% below the current price. That gap means Wall Street has not caught up with the market's cancer-vaccine optimism. Short interest is about 9.8% of shares outstanding.
