Global Commodity Market Wrap-Up

Global metals became weaker last week, with gold declining 1.51%, silver falling 2.34%, copper decreasing 1.21%, lead easing 1.04% and zinc slipping 1.46%. Precious metals remained under pressure as rising oil prices and stronger inflation expectations increased expectations of tighter Federal Reserve policy. Market attention now shifts toward the Federal Reserve’s upcoming rate decision, with the September 15–16 meeting being closely watched after stronger-than-expected U.S. inflation lifted expectations for a possible rate hike.

Natural gas declined 1.70%, while Light Sweet Crude Oil surged 6.99% as escalating Middle East tensions and concerns over Strait of Hormuz disruptions lifted supply risks. In agriculture, soybean fell 1.01%, corn declined 1.21%, while US Sugar No. 11 gained 0.71%. Markets will also monitor U.S. core retail sales alongside the Fed rate decision, with consumer spending data expected to provide further signals on economic momentum and the future path of monetary policy.
