Yellow Cake PLC

Yellow Cake PLC (LSE: YCA) is an FTSE AIM 100 index listed specialty entity operating in the uranium sector. This Report covers the Key Recommendation Rationale, Conclusion, and Recommendation on the stock.

Key Recommendation Rationale – Sell at GBX 458.00

  • Resistance near Current levels: YCA’s stock price crossed the Resistance (R1) which was stated in the previous report on 12 March 2025 therefore, there can be a possibility of a decline from resistance levels. Considering the market conditions and the price action, it is prudent to exit the stock.
  • Declining Uranium Spot Prices and Decreased Market Activity: From a third-party perspective, the significant drop in uranium spot prices, which decreased by 10.7% over the quarter and continued to weaken after the period ended, raises concerns regarding the stability of the uranium market. The reduction in uranium market transaction volumes, along with a noticeable decline in the spot market price, suggests that current demand may not be as robust as initially anticipated.
  • Risk of Supply Chain Disruptions Amid Growing Demand: The uranium market is facing increasing pressures related to supply-side fragility, with significant concerns about how existing supply chains will manage the rising demand for uranium. Despite growing momentum in nuclear energy projects, particularly in emerging markets, there is the risk that the supply of uranium may not keep pace with this demand, especially as new greenfield projects face higher development costs.

Valuation Methodology: Price/ Earnings Approach

Conclusion

YCA is expected to trade at a premium, considering the recent outlook and guidance, cost optimization strategies, and the reduction in interest rates. For conducting the valuation, the following peers have been considered: Anglo American PLC (LSE: AAL), Rio Tinto PLC (LSE: RIO) and others.

Given its current trading levels, the recent strategic investments and partnerships, recent rally in the share price, relative valuation, and associated risks, it is prudent to exit the stock at the current levels. Hence, a ‘Sell’ recommendation is given on the stock at the current Market Price of GBX 458.00 as of 20 March 2025 at 09:10 AM GMT.
