H1 FY25 Results (Released on 18 February 2025)

  1. Revenue and Profitability – Revenue declined 8% to US$25.2 billion, mainly due to lower realized prices for iron ore and steelmaking coal, while attributable profit surged 376% to US$4.4 billion, driven by operational efficiencies and cost control.
  1. Strong Copper Performance – Copper production increased 10% to 987 kt, with Escondida contributing a 22% rise, and copper’s share of underlying EBITDA grew to 39%, reflecting higher volumes and favorable pricing.
  1. Cost Efficiency and Margins – Unit costs improved across key assets, with WAIO maintaining its position as the lowest-cost major iron ore producer globally, and gross margins remained strong at 51.1%, supported by disciplined cost control.
  1. Capital and Growth Investments – Capital and exploration expenditure increased 10% to US$5.2 billion, with US$3.2 billion allocated to potash and copper, and the company successfully completed the formation of Vicuña Corp, a 50/50 joint venture with Lundin Mining.
  1. Cash Flow and Shareholder Returns – Net operating cash flow stood at US$8.3 billion, a 6% decline, due to lower realized prices, while an interim dividend of US$0.50 per share, totaling US$2.5 billion, was declared with a 50% payout ratio.
  1. Economic and Market Outlook – The economic outlook remains positive with China’s demand recovery, a resilient US economy, and strong growth in India, positioning BHP well to capitalize on long-term trends in energy transition, infrastructure, and urbanization
