Liontrust Asset Management Plc (LSE:LIO) released its trading update for the three months ended 30 June 2025, reporting net outflows of GBP 1.1 billion for the period. This compares to GBP 0.9 billion in the same quarter last year. Despite the outflows, the company’s total assets under management and advice (AuMA) remained unchanged at GBP 22.6 billion as of 30 June 2025.
The AuMA figure was also consistent as of 7 July 2025, indicating that market movements offset the impact of the outflows. The quarter saw continued investor redemptions, though Liontrust noted some early signs of renewed interest in actively managed strategies, particularly from institutional investors diversifying geographically beyond the U.S. market.
Chief Executive Officer John Ions commented that the current market conditions are encouraging greater allocation to active strategies, with Europe and the UK equity markets outperforming the U.S. in the first half of 2025. Ions also noted that Liontrust’s long-term performance metrics remain competitive, with 73% of its funds ranking in the top two quartiles of their respective sectors since inception, as of 30 June 2025.
Liontrust has been pursuing four key strategic objectives:
- Expanding distribution to institutional investors
- Increasing international reach
- Diversifying its fund range
- Maintaining long-term performance discipline
Although progress is being made on these fronts, the company continues to face industry-wide challenges, including outflows from UK-focused equity funds and broader investor caution.
The breakdown of AuMA across investment strategies and fund types was not disclosed in detail in the trading update but remains consistent with previous quarters. While client redemptions weighed on inflows, performance gains helped maintain asset levels across the firm’s product set.
Shares in Liontrust rose 7.59% on 10 July 2025 to trade at GBX 390.00 per share.
